Ron Arad / Head Architect

Ron Arad (born on April 24, 1951), is a world-renowned Israeli industrial designer, operating mainly from London. While also an architect, Arad is mainly known for his design of furniture and products. Ron Arad is considered as one of the most prominent post-modern designers.

Arad was born and raised in Tel Aviv, the youngest child of painter Esther Peretz-Arad and sculptor Grisha Arad, and brother of violist and composer Atar Arad. He attended Bezalel from 1971 to 1973 and immediately thereafter studied architecture in London (until 1979). Ron Arad co-founded with Caroline Thorman the design and production studio One Off in 1981 and later, in 1989, Ron Arad Associates architecture and design practice. In 2008 Ron Arad Architects was established alongside Ron Arad Associates.  From 1994 to 1999 he established the Ron Arad Studio, design and production unit in Como, Italy. In the same year, he assisted in the opening of the Bauhaus Museum at Bialilk House in Tel Aviv. In May 2010, Ron Arad was granted an honorary doctorate by the Tel Aviv University. In August of the same year, he served as judge in the Sukkah City architectural competition in New York. In September 2011, he was awarded the London Design Medal, which is awarded to designers who have made an outstanding contribution to London. The products of Arad are characterized by twisted metals and amorphic shapes of a raw and often humoristic look. His works are sold in high-scale shops around the world and are presented at prominent exhibitions and museums: Pompidou Center in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Albert and Victoria Museum in London.

In 2002, he was awarded honorary membership of the Royal Academy of Arts in the United Kingdom.
